Avoid placing the hands on the hips in action poses as it is unnatural for a person to walk with their hands in that position. It is not impossible, of course, but it is uncommon. Observe people walking on the street and try to capture that spirit of movement.
When using backgrounds make sure you keep them just that, backgrounds. They should always be subordinate to the merchandise presented, and they should be done in a sketchy technique.
